R.E.P.O.R.T #2
Good morning!
We’re back with my second Weekly R.E.P.O.R.T. because I had so much fun with it last week. My goal was to post them on Wednesdays, and oops it’s Thursday, but I’m sick, give me a break. As a result of this sickness, my enthusiasm for life has not been at its peak. Bear with me.
Enjoy.
Reading
Follow up on last week, I did finish Everything I Know About Love, and overall, I liked it. I appreciate that she was honest about the times that she didn’t make the right choice, and that she didn’t try to paint herself in a better light. It didn’t change my life, but I enjoyed it, and I’m interested to read it again a few years down the line to see how my perspective changes. Now I’m reading The Secret Hours by Mick Herron. I got this from the Blind Date With a Book Event at my job. Our lovely, stunning, wonderful librarian hosted an event where she wraps books and then only tells you the genre and some general information. You pick out a book based on this info alone, and then it’s a surprise when you unwrap it. I’m like 3 chapters into it, so I can’t really say for sure how I feel about it yet, but it’s very engaging so far.
Eating
This has been a relatively boring week for food. I just have not had the energy. I’ve really been rocking with eggs for breakfast and chicken and rice for dinner (so exciting I know). I’ve been buying lunch at work and it’s usually some combination of pretzels with hummus, yogurt, and a protein bar. The one day, however, I did make an ice cream sandwich in the dining hall at work with two sugar cookies, chocolate vanilla swirl ice cream, and sprinkles, so that was fun. See the picture below of me looking like Dr. Frankenstein with my creation. I’ve also been drinking a lot of tea (primarily earl grey with honey). Hopefully I have something much more exciting to write about next week.
Playing
I’m back and better than ever in a big guitar phase. I’m trying to master the fingerpicking pattern for Cool About It by boygenius, but it’s not perfect yet. I’ve also been enjoying playing Songbird by Fleetwood Mac, Wondering Why by The Red Clay Strays, and Harvest Moon by Neil Young.
Update on Animal Crossing, my resentment for Tom Nook is indeed growing. This racoon man is the villain in my story. You’re telling me I have to PAY to build a bridge. And I’m pretty sure none of the other residents have donated to the cause. Tom’s telling me that we need to improve the island to attract more residents, but I can’t carry that weight alone, I need someone else to chip in a little bit. Also, WHY ON EARTH ARE THERE LOANS IN THIS GAME. This is supposed to be an escape, a fun little break from daily life, and now you have me paying back a HOME LOAN?! Give me a break.
Obsessing Over
Bistro Huddy. For those of you who don’t know, Bistro Huddy is a TikTok account with skits about the staff of a restaurant, but all of the characters are played by the same guy, Drew Talbert. The lore that he is creating is so incredible. I can’t get enough, I’ll scroll through his account for hours. The Amber-Joey love story, Nicole and Bridgette’s friendship, it’s just all so good. If you have not yet, go explore some Bistro Huddy content.
Recommending
I’m recommending Warmies Eye Masks and Puffs Plus Lotion tissues. Yes, I am feeling a little under the weather, but either way, these two things are so so wonderful. First of all, the Warmies Eye Mask. I had heard of Warmies before because they make stuffed animals you can microwave (I have an otter), but now they make eye masks too, and that is just so thrilling. I got mine because my Aunt Cheryl put it in our family’s White Elephant game at Christmas. It has quite literally changed my life. You throw it in the microwave for like 30 seconds, and then you enjoy the deepest sleep of your life. It has lavender essential oils in it and it’s a little bit weighted. I wish the back strap was a little bit smaller, but maybe I just have a small head. I also wish there was a seam in between the eye parts so all of the beads don’t pour to one side when you lay on your side. Regardless, it is luxurious, and I highly recommend.
Secondly, the Puffs Plus Lotion tissues. I don’t know what individual decided to add lotion to tissues, but WOW they deserve the world. This is perhaps one of the most brilliant innovations of our time. Blowing your nose with a scratchy, rough tissue is just adding insult to injury. You’re already sick, you don’t need to be in more pain. Blowing your nose with the soft, moisturizing gift from God that is a Puffs Plus Lotion tissue is the definition of self-care.
Treating Myself To
Speaking of self-care, I’m treating myself to actually using my fun self-care things. I have all of these sugar scrubs, hair masks, bubble baths, etc. and I never use any of them because I felt like I needed to save them for an occasion. However, I’m fully over that now. Stop saving things for the right occasion. Use that face mask. Especially because nobody is ever going to see you at some fancy event and be like “wow I bet she used the Tree Hut Vanilla Shea Sugar Scrub”. On the flip side, if you use it on a regular day, nobody’s gonna know! They’re not going to be like “wow I can’t believe she wasted that on a regular Wednesday in February.” Nobody’s paying attention, so have some fun pampering yourself.
That's All, Folks!
This continues to be an extremely enjoyable experience. Since the last R.E.P.O.R.T., I’ve added a recipe book section, written 3 blog posts, and published the Things I Love and Things I Hate lists. I’m excited to keep going!
And lastly, my songs of the week:
You Can Call Me Al - Paul Simon (why does the beginning remind me of the Arthur theme song?)
Tangerine - Noah Richardson
My Mother & I - Lucy Dacus
Don’t Answer Me - The Alan Parsons Project
Sayonara, Sammy!
